Denver, Colorado is also known as The Mile High City, due to the fact that its' official elevation is 5,280 feet, exactly one mile. Denver is the capital of Colorado and also the most populous city in the state. This beautiful city is situated in the South Platte River Valley, just east of the Rocky Mountains.

The city of Denver was first established during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush of 1858 and was originally named Montana City. The name was changed to Denver City in November and was a frontier town and had a bustling economy based on serving the local miners. In Denver City they could find saloons, supplies, livestock, gambling and trading.

Four distinct seasons will be experienced while traveling in Denver. July is the warmest month of the year normally averaging temperatures in the middle 70's. In the summer it can get in the 90's at times and there are also occasional afternoon thunderstorms. December is the coldest month of the year with temperatures averaging 30 degrees. It can get up in the 60's during the day and then drop drastically with nightfall.

Denver is home to a nationally known cultural and Art District on Santa Fe, which hosts over 100 theatres, restaurants, galleries and specialty shops. It is open every day and often has popular events happening.World class museums and unique art districts are abundant in the area as well.In the heart of downtown Denver you will find Denver's 16th Street Mall. Outdoor cafes, nightspots, stores, artsy chess tables and much more can be found along this mile-long pedestrian promenade.

Denver, Colorado is home to some major medical facilities and hospitals including the University of Colorado Hospital, Sky Ridge Medical Center, Porter Adventist Hospital, Children's Hospital Colorado, National Jewish Health and many more.
