Many Health Benefits of Yoga

Many Health Benefits of Yoga

So many great benefits can be realized from becoming a regular yoga practitioner. Even human clinical research now confirms that yoga is beneficial in the prevention and treatment of over 70 distinct disease categories. Here is a link to more information about these studies by Green Med Info.

Healthcare travelers and traveling nurses lead very stressful lives and it is a must that you find a way to de-stress. Yoga is one of the best ways there is and the benefits are many.

Here are just a few of the many studies findings:

Found strong evidence for short-term effectiveness and moderate evidence for long-term effectiveness of yoga for chronic low back pain in the most important patient-centered outcomes.

Hatha yoga is a promising method for treating anxiety.

Yoga has a positive effect on patients with chronic heart failure.

Yoga is a safe and more effective intervention during pregnancy.

A yoga program has potential benefits for women with fibromyalgia.

Aerobic exercise and Hatha yoga reduce cravings for tobacco smoking.

Decrease in serum cortisol during yoga exercise is correlated with alpha wave activation.

Effect of yoga therapy on plasma oxytocin and facial emotion recognition deficits in patients of schizophrenia.

Hatha yoga reduces pain drug requirements in subjects with chronic low back pain.

Isometric yoga improves the fatigue and pain of patients with chronic fatigue syndrome who are resistant to conventional therapy.

Iyengar yoga improves functional disability, pain intensity and depression in adults with chronic low back pain.

These are just a few of the studies noted. There are hundreds. I personally have been practicing yoga, mostly in my own home, for more than 20 years. Sometimes I practice daily, sometimes I slack off and everywhere in between. I can honestly say yoga has done more for my physical body, my mental focus and clarity and my overall attitude than any other one thing in my life. Keep practicing yogis or start practicing if you haven't already. There are great yoga apps for that as well as a plethora of videos available on youtube of course..
