Have you ever considered going into the Emergency Department? It takes a quick-thinking individual with a strong stomach to thrive in the Emergency Room. The trauma, injuries and illness encountered in this department will keep the Registered Nurse on their toes during most shifts. On call, holidays, night and weekend shifts may be required in this line of work as well. Obviously emergencies don't happen during business hours.
Emergency Room Registered Nurses work as part of a team with physicians, other nurses and healthcare professionals to provide care, monitor health conditions, plan long-term care needs, administer medicine, use medical equipment, perform minor medical operations and advise and educate patients and their families on illness, care and continued care after they are discharged from the hospital.
Emergency rooms are often the first line of defense for allergic reactions, accidents and injuries and anything else requiring immediate medical attention. The ER RN must quickly assess the needs of the patient and prioritize the care based on need. They will work to stabilize the patient, treat the problem and either arrange for hospital admission or discharge.
It is a harrowing and nerve-wracking career but some nurses love the adrenaline and the life and death situations involved in this type of job. If this is what you are looking for, there are ER jobs available for Registered Nurse travelers all across the US.
