Yep! I know that sounds too good to be true, right? Reap health benefits from dancing. Well, I for one am a firm believer in this. I go out dancing every weekend once or twice to live music. I dance like it's a workout and have a great time and I do believe it's keeping me younger than my peers who don't dance. If you like to dance but haven't made time to do it of lately then this information might give you just the incentive to join me back on the dance floor.
Let loose and let your stress melt away and let it flow. Improvements in brain function and quality of life can be some of the benefits of dancing the night away. When my children were growing up we used to have family danceathons in the living room to loud music. My kids loved it and it was a great release for us parents too. There are also the mood elevating effects of being around other people who are also enjoying themselves.
And talk about a great stress reliever. I always feel so much better after I get moving. As travel nurses and professional healthcare travelers there is always a need to relieve that stress. Your jobs are very stressful and consuming and letting loose occasionally might be just what the doctor ordered.
In elderly patients, dancing was shown to reduce agitation and depression. Dancing also allows you to express yourself creatively and physically. It can improve your balance and leads to increased activity in the hippocampus of the brain, where memory and learning reside. Many studies have produced comparable results.
So the jury is no longer out on this one. Get your body moving and have some fun while you are at it! Come on out and join me on the dance floor and reap the many benefits.
