Turmeric – the spice for your health

Turmeric – the spice for your health

Turmeric has been used for cooking and healing for over 2000 years. The active component in turmeric is curcumin. It is from the ginger family. The spice turmeric is made by grinding up the turmeric root. It is one of the main spices used in curry and has a bitter, warm taste. The root contains a yellow chemical called curcumin.

There are many studies being done on curcumin at this time across the US as the potential for its uses is being explored. Curcumin has been found to have the great healing properties: antioxidant, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and antifungal. It has been found to reduce the swelling, inflammation and pain of arthritis as well as being helpful in treating inflammation after surgery.

So many patients are having issues today with pain control drugs. These drugs have unpleasant side effects that can be very harmful to the patient as well as interfering with the body's normal inflammation responses.

Turmeric has been found to be very effective in controlling pain and could be the best alternative out there to get Americans off the pain control medications. It has been used to treat many conditions including: joint pain, stomach pain, heartburn, arthritis, stomach bloating, loss of appetite, liver problems, jaundice, stomach ulcers, IBS, high cholesterol, fatigue and many more major ailments which plague our society today. The pain relief qualities found in curcumin have been promising and may provide a future without pain or pain control medications a vast majority of patients with chronic pain.

Curcumin could be the next big thing in pain relief. A natural alternative would be beneficial for all involved, patients and their caregivers.
