NICU Travel Nurses are Needed Everywhere

NICU Travel Nurses are Needed Everywhere

Some of the best NICU units in America are looking for travel NICU nurses. There are so many opportunities to work with the best of the best and expand your horizons and your career.

Boston Children's Hospital, Monroe Carroll, Jr. Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital in Cleveland, Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and so many more facilities all across America need healthcare professionals.

Most patients in Neonatal Intensive Care Units are born before 37 weeks gestation, are low birth weight and some have medical conditions requiring specialized care. There are nearly half a million babies born prematurely in the US each year. Multiple births such as twins, triplets and more are often admitted to NICU due to earlier birth and smaller size as well. Babies that are born with health conditions such as birth defects, heart problems or infections are also admitted to NICU.

The NICU team works together with the parents in developing a plan of care for the high-risk newborn. The NICU RN provides round-the-clock care to these patients and also offers support to the parents. Parental support can range from advising the parents on proper care of the infant after discharge and even emotional encouragement. The prime responsibility of the NICU RN is to ensure the newborn's critical care treatment is secure and it may be necessary to perform life sustaining care. Newborns lungs are not fully developed many times and the NICU RN has to make sure the infant is breathing and maturing properly. Of course, basic baby case such as changing diapers and bedding is also part of the job. Constant monitoring is necessary in these units.

NICU nurses spend most of their shift on their feed and most work in NICU units of hospitals. Most NICU RN's do not rotate to other departments because of the high level of training necessary to provide the care necessary for these infants. They must remain calm under pressure and be able to respond quickly in crisis as these infants can deteriorate very quickly at any second. Worried parents are a large part of this job as well and compassion, patience and people skills are a must.
