Fitting In – A Few Helpful Hints

Fitting In – A Few Helpful Hints

We know, it's never easy when you start a new assignment. Travel nurses have it even harder as it's not only a new job, it's a new home, a new location, and so much more. But that's one of the beauties of travel nursing, change, change, change…..Change is good, right?

As a travel nurse you knew this would happen. Don't let it be overwhelming. First of all, remember that it's going to take a little time to get used to things and for your new coworkers to get used to you. Breathe and do the best job you can do. Things will get easier and you will start feeling more comfortable after a little time.

Don't be afraid to ask for help. Make sure to pitch in and help your coworkers when the opportunity arises. Do you share and don't be a slacker. The job is always easier if you get along with everyone you can. And, of course, if not, it's temporary and you can handle it for your short term assignment, right?

Go out with your coworkers to an event, even if it's not something you are interested in. This can help break the ice and help them accept your sooner as part of the group. Engage them in conversation and ask questions. And pull your weight. Most people will come around if you are doing your job the best you can.

Don't talk too much. Listening is the best way to learn quickly. Be friendly and helpful but don't be constantly talking. Try to keep a positive attitude and make the best of each shift.

Avoid office politics if possible. Nothing will be gained from engaging in this behavior.

Do the best job you can and provide your patients with the best care possible and your assignment will be over and you will be moving on before you know it. Safe Travels!
