Pediatrics RN's care for sick and/or injured, babies, toddlers and children in hospitals, healthcare facilities and patient's homes. The RN works as part of the healthcare professional team to monitor health conditions, provide care, plan for long-term needs, administer meds, use medical equipment, perform minor medical operations and even to advise patients and their families on necessary care when the patient goes home.
Sometimes the pediatric patient may not understand or be able to communicate for themselves. The Pediatric RN must be compassionate and be able to consult with parents or guardians of the patient. Good communication skills are a must as well as critical thinking skills are necessary, as quick and decisive action may be needed when treating these patients.
