Musculoskeletal diseases and malfunctions are the realm of the Orthopedic Registered Nurse. Providing care for patients who have bone fractures, arthritis, joint replacement surgeries, and many other bone and muscle related problems, the Orthopedic Registered Nurse also helps patients with degenerative diseases.
Casting, monitoring neurovascular status, performing external fixation care and continuous motion therapy are just a few of the many duties of the RN in the Ortho setting. The RN also handles the post-op care as well as administering medications and treatments and helping the patient to recuperate and heal quickly. Hospitals, nursing facilities and clinics are a few of the places where the Orthopedic RN would work.
